We live in the Chattanooga TN Neighborhood of Lookout Valley. We were one of the first hit. I was upstairs in our bathroom trying to put my contact lenses in after taking a shower when the storm first hit. My husband grabbed me and threw me down the stairs to our finished basement and then pushed our dogs down. He barely got down the stairs, not even able to shut the upstairs door, when the Tornado hit. We hid downstairs listening to the rumbles, bumps and thumps. I finally grabbed the flashlight and went into the bathroom in the basement to put in my contacts (which I still had clutched in my hand) and throw some clothes on (from the laundry). Hubby yelled for me get out…..”you need to be here in the corner where it is safer”. I yelled back ” I am NOT going to be found dead blind and naked!”. We were blessed. We have $25,000 damage to our house, the yard is gone and Hubby’s truck was totaled, but we are so lucky compared to others. Hubby and I laugh about those comments as we clean up. He says I am too proud to be found without clothes and contacts. He is right. We have the only finished basement on this street, so whenever there was another warning, all the neighbors would bring blankets, etc and pile into our basement. We learned a lot more about each other that day and night. And we are all so much closer because of it.
My prayers go out to others who lost life, loves and everything. I can not wrap my brain around what they are going through.
