Social Media Comes to Aid of Yukon Man

YUKON, OK – After the tornado destroyed Guy McClintock’s home on May 24th he had no one to help him search for his precious memories. Guy’s wife passed away a few months ago and his daughter Kathy lives in California. Since his home is hidden from the road down a long driveway no one locally had come to his aid. That’s when Kathy contacted stormHOPE.org and asked if there was anyone that could help her dad. Kim Davis, a stormHOPE coordinator immediately sprang to action and went to Mr. McClintock’s home and began helping. She was joined by other volunteers and they have helped to recover many precious items. Tomorrow stormHOPE.org is organizing a volunteer day and meeting at the McClintock home on N. Gregory in Yukon. Volunteer groups will divide up and help finish up at the McClintock place and spread out to help others in the area.

The power of social networking in a crisis situation is evident here. stormHOPE.org originated in Alabama following the April 27th tornados there and then reached out to help set up a social media site for Oklahomans after the May 24th tornados. Kathy was in California, her dad was in OK and she contacted stormHOPE which is based in Alabama. We’ve come a long way from rotary dial phones!

KFOR-TV carried a story on Mr. McClintock and you can read that report here.

Following are some photos taken by Kim Davis this week while she was helping Mr. McClintock. Click on the first image and image will pop up and allow you to scroll.
